What's New:

  • You can now access your authorized apps in Settings.
  • Authorized apps are third-party apps and services that you've linked your account for PlayStation Network to. When using an authorized app, you give permission to share your account data with that app.
  • To view and manage your authorized apps, go to Settings > Account Management > Authorized Apps, and then scan the QR code with your mobile device.
  • Friends that are active on PlayStation App will now show up as online on your friends list.
  • Unicode 15.0 emoji can now be displayed.
  • You can see which of the players in your game session are on other platforms for games that support this feature.

How to update the PS4 console system software

  • Using a PC or Mac, create a folder named "PS4" on a USB drive formatted as FAT32. Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE".
  • Download the update file (button below) and save it in the "UPDATE" folder. Save the file as "PS4UPDATE.PUP".
  • Plug the USB drive containing the file into your PS4 console.
  • Start the PS4 console in Safe Mode: press and hold the power button, releasing after the second beep.
  • Select Safe Mode option 3: Update System Software.
  • Select Update from USB Storage Device > OK.

If your PS4 console does not recognize the file, check that the folder names and file name are correct. Enter the folder names and file name using uppercase letters.

How to reinstall the PS4 console system software

Reinstalling the system software on your PS4 console will delete all of the data on your PS4 console. This process is often referred to as a "factory" reset, or "hard" reset.

  • Using a PC or Mac, create a folder named "PS4" on a USB drive formatted as FAT32. Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE".
  • Download the reinstallation file (button below) and save it in the "UPDATE" folder. Save the file as "PS4UPDATE.PUP".
  • Plug the USB drive containing the file into the PS4 console.
  • Start the PS4 console in Safe Mode: press and hold the power button, releasing after the second beep.
  • Select Safe Mode option 7: Reinstall System Software.
  • Select Update from USB Storage Device > OK.
